About David

David F. Hartman, MNA David F. Hartman, MNA is a seasoned leader in the social sector, skilled in management and in consulting, and specializing in interim executive management, along with strategic planning and financial development.

David was trained in interim executive management, with curriculum developed by leaders in the field, focused on leadership protocols and instrumental tools for providing strategic transitional leadership. He belongs to a recognized network of professional interim executives, with a mobilized peer network for support and assistance.

David provides strategic direction and transition management to nonprofit organizations and institutions to help to help attain their goals, increase their impact, and achieve their highest potential. He works collaboratively with clients to help them act strategically and effect meaningful change, balancing attention to process with the business acumen required to navigate a dynamic environment and achieve lasting results. He has guided organizations through a comprehensive process of strategic restructuring designed to accelerate impact and deliver more effective programs that advance their missions—from collaborations to fully integrated mergers. While serving as interim executive director, David led board and staff through an internal assessment, identification of opportunities, strategy, negotiations and implementation.

David’s distinguished approach to a donor-centered development practice, guides organizations through all aspects of annual, capital and major gift fundraising campaigns engaging staff and board and helping organizations increase their capacity to attract resources.

David has recently served in numerous interim executive positions with diverse nonprofit organizations. He previously served as President of the National MS Society, Northern California Chapter, and held two executive positions with the American Red Cross.

David earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Francisco, and studied at the University of London, School of Economics.
